Mom’s Cranberry Applesauce

IMG_6864

Just found out that you need to bring a dish to Christmas Eve dinner...eek!   Don't panic we have got you covered with an easy, delicious and festive dish. This is a Harbushka Family favorite and we have never had a Holiday without my mom’s Cranberry Applesauce. I promise it is easy and people will ask for seconds. It is best to make a day in advance.   Cranberry Sauce

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 cups of cranberries (one 12oz. bag)

Boil the water and sugar together for about 5 minutes. The sugar will begin to dissolve and you may need to stir it to prevent it from burning. Add the cranberries and lower to a simmer. Cook the cranberries until the skins pop. Do not overcook. Once done set the sweet cranberries aside to cool   Apple Sauce

  • 1 ¼ cups of sugar
  • 2 cups of water
  • ¼ teaspoon of ground cinnamon or 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 8 medium red delicious apples, peeled and cut into wedges

In a large pot, boil the water, sugar, and cinnamon together for about 10 minutes. Add the apples and lower the temperature to simmer and cook until tender. Set aside and to cool slightly.   Use a pretty glass dish to show off the beautiful cranberry color. Also, you never know if your dish will end up on the table. First pour the apples then add the cranberries on top, do not stir until you are going to serve. It will keep for three weeks.
