What you need to know about EasySmile

So you are looking at your smile and thinking, I wish there were something I could do to my teeth. Either you don’t like the color from years of coffee and red wine or maybe your teeth are crooked, and you want braces. Well, there is an easy way to create your dream smile. We talked to San Diego based EasySmile (™) expert, Dr. Gary Braunstein, Dentist at Encinitas Dental Care, to answer your questions when it comes to boosting your self-confidence with straightening crooked teeth, whitening, or even repairing chipped teeth. Here are some of the questions you have probably wondered about but have never asked your dentist.

FIRST THINGS FIRST

WHAT IS EASYSMILE?

EasySmile is a life like veneer that will transform your smile. It is a product of years of research that create strong, natural looking, bright white veneers that have a life like appearance. There are no shots, no filing of the tooth, no outside lab work or temporaries. EasySmile is the perfect solution for straightening crooked teeth, brightening, fixing uneven teeth, repairing chipped teeth and much more.

HOW IS EASYSMILE DIFFERENT FROM THE TRADITIONAL PORCELAIN VENEER?

EasySmile Veneers are a resin based material whereas traditional porcelain veneers are made of porcelain.  There are advantages and disadvantages to both.  Porcelain Veneers require drilling or filing of your teeth in preparation to receive the veneer;  impressions must be taken, and temporary veneers placed on your teeth.  Porcelain Veneers are two or three times as expensive as EasySmile Veneers, and they are not reversible.  It requires two or three visits to have porcelain veneers made and placed on your teeth.   However, porcelain veneers will not stain, and their color can be more customized. EasySmile Veneers do not require drilling or filing of your teeth.  You can see a preview veneer to make sure you like how it looks before you have them done.  The procedure is done in 1 visit, and they can be easily repaired if they should chip or break.  EasySmile Veneers are much more affordable than traditional porcelain veneers, being ½ to ⅓ the cost of traditional porcelain veneers.

ARE THERE ANY SHOTS INVOLVED?

There is a cosmetic procedure called EasySmile Veneers or ProVeneers.  This procedure does not require any filing or drilling of your teeth in most cases.  Occasionally,  the doctor will recommend some slight reshaping of the enamel before placing the veneer, so that the final appearance of your tooth does not appear too bulky.

WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS

HOW WILL I KNOW IF I LIKE EASYSMILE?

That is a great question.  The first step in the EasySmile process is to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure.  The dentist will create a Smile Preview Veneer on your tooth in about two or three minutes so that you can see how it will actually look in your mouth {not  a computer generated image}.  If you like how the Smile  Preview Veneer looks, you will love the final result.

HOW LONG DO THEY LAST AND WILL THEY STAIN?

Porcelain Veneers can last from 10 – 20 years.  They are color stable and do not stain.  They are very durable, but they can chip or break.  If that happens, then the dentist must drill off the old veneer, take a new impression, make a temporary veneer for you to wear for about two weeks, and have the lab make a new veneer.  Depending on the policy of each office, you will be charged to remake the veneer after the guarantee period(if there is one).  EasySmile Veneers/ProVeneers usually last 5-10 years.  With some care and occasional touch ups,  if one of them should chip or break, they can be maintained to last as long as porcelain veneer.  If an EasySmile Veneer chips or breaks, they can be repaired or replaced at a minimal fee in 1 short visit, no need to wear any temporaries.

IS IT REVERSIBLE?

EasySmile Veneers are placed without drilling or filing down your natural teeth, so the procedure is reversible if you should decide that you want them removed.   Your teeth will be the same as how they were before the EasySmile Veneers were placed.

APPOINTMENT SPECIFICS

IS COSMETIC DENTISTRY EXPENSIVE?

The cost of a traditional porcelain veneer ranges anywhere from $700 – $1600 per tooth, depending on the experience and skill of the doctor providing the service,  the quality of the laboratory used, and the communication between the dentist, the patient, and the lab. The cost of an EasySmile Veneer ranges from $400 – $800 per tooth.  There is no laboratory involved,  so the fees can be kept much lower than traditional porcelain veneers.

WILL I HAVE TO DO ANYTHING SPECIAL TO MAINTAIN THE SMILE?

Brush(twice a day) and floss(once a day) as you normally would.  Be a little more careful when biting; try to avoid biting very hard food like candy or caramel with your front teeth.  Avoid fingernail biting.  If you clench or grind your teeth at night, you should wear a nightguard to protect your veneers.

HOW LONG WILL THE PROCEDURE TAKE?

EasySmile Veneers are placed in one visit.  It usually requires about 15-30 minutes per tooth.  So one EasySmile Veneer will take less than half an hour;  4 EasySmile Veneers about 1 – 1 ½ hours, and 8 EasySmile Veneers about 2 – 2 ½ hours.
