When we are young and start earning our first paycheck it is so hard to think that a % needs to be put away for when we retire. I mean when you look down and see that X dollar amount was taken out for Social Security and X dollar amount was taken out for Medicare and all of the other deductions that go along with each paycheck the thought of saving usually goes to the backburner. The idea of saving 3% or 10% or 20% of a paycheck so that you can retire in 35 or 40 years feels like it is so far away especially when there is a pair of Jimmy Choos that are really calling your name.  When it comes the conversation of savings account, retirement accounts or 401K’s most of us go into frozen mode. We have been taught through generational conditioning, TV shows and even our friends to either put off the idea of saving or even worse we fear the balance in our savings account. There is always the thought of I will put […]

Thank goodness we are not still back in the olden days were women did not have the opportunity to celebrate kissing the Miss. goodbye.  Traditionally men would have a bachelor party where they would go out and seize the night as their last single night. Now bachelorettes get to look forward to a  weekend getaway or a night on the town with her closest girl friends. Do you need some suggestions? Keep reading…   The Hostess: Typically the Maid or Matron of Honor is responsible for planning the weekend, however, this is not set in stone. The friend or relative who is closest to the bride and can manage the organization and plan the event. I recommend having one bestie takes ownership otherwise, there can be too many cooks in the kitchen if you know what I mean. The Guest List: The bride is going to want her besties there so have her provide a list. Look at the number of girls and base it on the location. For example, you might need an even number because of sleeping [...]

This past week I was in a classroom from 8:30 – 5:30 for 6 straight days plus 2 study days. I have to be honest…I absolutely love learning however, I can not begin to tell you I am glad I am to be done with my classroom time. I have graduated high school {check that box}, graduated from a University {check that box and Bear Down Arizona}, hold a California Real Estate License {check that box}, and a California NMLS Mortgage License {check that box}. Now back to learning, like I was saying I love learning and it is truly is a gift to be able to learn. I know that there are people around the world who do not have the same opportunities as I do here in Southern California, so again I want to express the gratitude I have to be able to continue to educate myself in a classroom, grow and propel my career. With that being said, going back to school for 6 days was an experience.  I began thinking to myself, 8:30 – 5:30 that […]

We have all been there and I am sure we all find ourselves there from time to time. It is when we look at our checking account and see that our paycheck is being whisked away faster than we can earn it. We are independent women who have rent, a car payment, utilities, cell phone, health insurance, a 401K and we need a Girls Night.  Here are some great ideas for you and your girl friends to try this weekend. I promise it will be fun and it will keep you on track financially.   Host a wine party. Yep that is right turn your living room into a wine bar. Time flies and all of a sudden it has been a couple of weeks since you last saw your BFFs. Make it fun and creative. Don’t just call your girlfriends. Put together a fun invitation and send it.   This time of year everyone begins talking about what changes will happen in the next year, how great the coming year will be and what their New Year’s resolution will be. To be honest most people fail when it comes to a New Year’s goal or resolution. Let’s set goals that we can accomplish! Something to look at in the first place is why do we set a resolution? Is it just tradition? Is it for self improvement? Is it a time frame to clear the slate and start fresh?  This concept of New Year’s Resolution is so ingrained in our culture with resolutions such as start a diet, drink less alcohol, get more sleep, save 20% of your paycheck yet the majority of people never follow through. Here are 4 steps to set you 2016 resolution and keep it through the year.   Make only one resolution – We get carried away and decide to start the year with a ton of new changes. Try making one resolution that you know is attainable and make it something you […]

Just found out that you need to bring a dish to Christmas Eve dinner…eek!   Don’t panic we have got you covered with an easy, delicious and festive dish. This is a Harbushka Family favorite and we have never had a Holiday without my mom’s Cranberry Applesauce. I promise it is easy and people will ask for seconds. It is best to make a day in advance.   Cranberry Sauce 1 cup of sugar 1 cup of water 2 cups of cranberries (one 12oz. bag)   Boil the water and sugar together for about 5 minutes. The sugar will begin to dissolve and you may need to stir it to prevent it from burning. Add the cranberries and lower to a simmer. Cook the cranberries until the skins pop. Do not overcook. Once done set the sweet cranberries aside to cool   Apple Sauce 1 ¼ cups of sugar 2 cups of water ¼ teaspoon of ground cinnamon or 2 cinnamon sticks 8 medium red delicious apples, peeled and cut into wedges   In a large pot, boil the water, […]

It is so easy to get caught up feeling like you have to spend spend spend because it is the Holidays. Let me back up and say, never feel like you have to spend money you don’t have or can not afford. That is another blog post but todays is about setting a budget and keeping inline with your Holiday spending.   Never ever feel like you have to spend all of your cash or dip into your savings to keep up with what you assume is expected of you. It is easy to get in over your head with charging what you think is the perfect gift and then spend the next couple of years paying it off. For example, let’s say you feel like you need to spend $1000 on Christmas and you do not have the $1000 to actually spend so you put it on your credit card. Just an FYI the average credit card is around 17% interest. You do not pay off your card come January which means you are keeping the balance revolving. The $1000 […]
