066: Healthy minds and healthy bodies with Jessica Montenegro
Is there a link between psychology, nutrition and hypnotherapy? There is and it is our guest for today’s show, Jessica Montenegro. Jessica is a woman on a mission: to help people improve their lives and be the best version of themselves they can be.
In that vein, Jessica created her studio, Gymbratz, located in San Diego. She joins us on this episode of Real World Woman: Sex, Money and Food to talk about what the 3 D’s are, how to curb your negative internal voice and so much more!

At Gymbratz she weaves elements of psychology, nutrition and hypnotherapy into her client sessions in her quest to help people become the best they can be. Specifically she works with clients on exercise, nutrition, and mental wellness through a variety tools of including hypnotherapy.
Hypnotherapy helps the client relax and find greater mental wellness. In her hypnotherapy sessions, Jessica leads her client through the story of their best possible life, both in mind and in body. Those sessions help with the physical aspect of her work because when it comes to fitness, your mental state is just as important as your physical state.
We also dig into the importance of positive self-talk. Jessica wants to fight negative self-talk, and has a policy of no negativity during her sessions. She does this because women are always telling themselves they aren’t capable of the things they want to do, and that is setting themselves up for failure.
Jessica wants people to know that they are capable of anything. She recommends talking to yourself like you talk to your friends; don’t put yourself down, not when comparing yourself to others or in any other situation. You wouldn’t talk to your friends or loved ones that way so why would you talk to yourself like that?
Jessica has another tip for creating healthier self-talk: for every negative thing you say about yourself, come up with three things you love about yourself. She suggests they be powerful attributes, not just the way your eyebrows look today!
That positive self-talk is important to feeling good and feeling comfortable in your own body. She says it is more important than a number (like how much you weigh), and that is why she focuses on health and fitness over weight loss. There are some things about your body that will never really change, and learning to accept those things is far more important than obsessing over a slice of cake.
We also discuss burning calories, what those 3 Ds stand for and why the are important as well as banishing negativity in your life. Tune in for all of that and much much more on this week’s episode of The Real World Woman: Sex, Money, and Food Podcast.
