The Day You Stop Learning is the Day You Stop Growing

This past week I was in a classroom from 8:30 – 5:30 for 6 straight days plus 2 study days. I have to be honest…I absolutely love learning however, I can not begin to tell you I am glad I am to be done with my classroom time. I have graduated high school {check that box}, graduated from a University {check that box and Bear Down Arizona}, hold a California Real Estate License {check that box}, and a California NMLS Mortgage License {check that box}. Now back to learning, like I was saying I love learning and it is truly is a gift to be able to learn. I know that there are people around the world who do not have the same opportunities as I do here in Southern California, so again I want to express the gratitude I have to be able to continue to educate myself in a classroom, grow and propel my career. With that being said, going back to school for 6 days was an experience.  I began thinking to myself, 8:30 – 5:30 that is an entire day!!!  How will I have time to work on my podcasts, or how will I have time to write a blog post, or how will I have time to go to yoga, or how will I have time to have any freedom? As I have evolved and changed from being a full time student to an entrepreneur the freedom thing is a biggie.

As my time as a full time student for 6 days kicked off I began to get back into my old groove. I packed my lunch the night before and I even used my 4th grade lunchbox, I prepped my breakfast the night before, and I even laid out my clothes. I got right back into the schoolgirl mindset. I had forgotten how draining it can be to learn. I quickly remembered there are few ways to attend a class; you can sit and chill and spend hours catching up on your social media, or you can go through a laundry list of things you need to complete after class is out or you can actually become a sponge and learn. I opted for the learning sponge type of student,  I listened, asked questions, and took copious notes. My goal was to not have to come back for a crash course to pass the state exam. I thought to myself, why squander my time in class.  I wanted to pass the state exam on the first try. I would come home from school and not be able to even hold a conversation as I had used every braincell to comprehend the information. On about day 4 and 5 I was beginning to get cabin fever and wanted to go to yoga and have a day to myself. However, I stuck to it and packed my lunch, picked out my outfit and stuck to my goal of passing the state exam. At the end of 6 days I completed the course and I did pass my exam on the first try {phew}.

At this point you may be wondering what class was I taking or why am I telling this story of going back to school? Well, I thought this would be a good way to talk about growth. I decided to get licensed for Health, Life and Disability Insurance. With my podcast and my blog talking about Sex, Money and Food, I am making a commitment to grow and learn as much as I can to be able to provide you with real life content. We live in the real world where money doesn’t grow on trees. We need to know as much as we can about how to create wealth and financial stability.   Learning about Life Insurance and how it creates an immediate estate and learning about the importance of Disability Insurance and how it can cover a gap if there is no income is a huge asset.  Sitting in the classroom I looked at my personal growth and how I have checked boxes and grown exponentially with each accomplishment.  I am so humbled to be given the opportunity and the choice to continue to learn.

Remember to never stop learning and never stop growing.

The day you stop learning is the day you stop living.”
